Personal Reflection:

I’ve cut people out of my life since last year and have been a big proponent of surrounding yourself with people that are intrinsically good. that is they are supportive, positive, happy, and add a real value to your life. In this article we see that what our brain reacts greater chemically to something that our peers see as having value. we also see that it reacts much less to something that we find value if our peers do not find it of value.

This makes me reflect on the things we value and find important in our lives and our basic views and beliefs. if an unhealthy belief is seen as important by the people we our surrounded by this will make our brain react stronger to that belief. our belief will then affect our thoughts and in turn our thoughts will start to affect our mood. It could be surmised that if the things you find important in life are not valued by your peers than you’ll have less of a brain reaction to those things and will get less enjoyment from them. 

TL;DR: 

1) brain activity was higher for things(stimuli) that were rated higher by peers even if they were rated lower by the participant.

2) So get those “shitty” people out of your life. especially if they are haters and place value on demeaning others. and get loving supportive people into your life, especially if they put value in things just because they know you love them.
